A bit info about Fair Trade In our company

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

As we are based in Bangkok Thailand, we got one question that is been asked all the time; "How do you treat your workers?", "Are you a fair trade company?", "Does the workers have health care insurance?" etc...

Our Company is working 24 days a month, from 8:00 morning to 18:00 in the evening with 1 hour break on noon time.

As we believe that education is very important, we don't hire any worker that is younger then 18 years old.

All our workers are can support themselves and their family as we take care that they will get a fair salary and Health care for them and their kids. For over time, we pay our workers 150% from their regular salary.

We also take care for safety and clean working environment, and we provide safety accessories that will help to prevent accidents.

All our natural seed beads are been bought from farmers in north east of Thailand that is known as a poor area. As before no one ask to buy those seeds they just throw them away or just leave them to rot. We pay the farmers a fair price and accept every quantity that they give as and that way they have extra money to support their family as well.

We are trying to do our best to give our workers the best conditions and make them grow up with us as we hope for a better future for them as well.

Seed that we make handmade jewelry from

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

On our Handmade jewelry collection we have a great selection of natural seed beads jewelry. So I want to explain a bit about were we receive it from what is there, Thai name and English name (if they have one).

First, all the seed that we have in our collection is growing In Thailand.

As we like to buy all our material from there real source, we go to the country side and found the farmers that have those seed beads in there farm and want to sell it for us instead of let those seed beads rat on the flour or just go to the garbage.
And that way we help them with a little extra income (one of the farmers sold for us 1000 KG. of red seeds in one year so it is not small :) ).

The seed that we work with the most is The Red Sandlewood Seed or Saga Seed (in Thai they call is "Med Ma-Glam Ta Chang" (Elephant's Eye) ). It is grown in tropical areas only so you can find it in south east Asia or in South America . In South America they call "Tento Seed" or "ChoCho seed".

Saga Seed

In northeast of Thailand people eat the seed as a Peanut and also make necklaces from the seeds for good luck.

Another seed that is Abrus precatorius or know as Jequirity or Crab's Eye, red mix with Black is been used for make many of our jewelry. The Name of this seed in Thailand is "Med Ma-Glum Ta Nhoo" or "Ta Dam Ta Dang" (black eye red eye). It is know for his bright red and black colors and grown in north east Thailand.

Afzelia Xylocarpa Seed (Med Makha) is a black with Ivory like top that grown in the north of Thailand, it is full inside so it is possible to carve and drill for get many texture and designs. We make from this seed beads - handmade bead bracelets , seed bead necklace, and bead earrings.

More seed that we use is Called "Med Ma-Kham" (Tamarind seed). It is grown In every part of Thailand and also been eaten as a fried peanut. We make necklaces and bracelets from it. Many Thai friends and customers like to buy them just because they like the idea of making a jewelry from this seed.

One more seed that we use is Areca Nut (Mahk) this seed is famous with the old lady from the south and north of Thailand with the dark red teeth (this is the seed that they grind and chow most of the day together with the tobacco).

When we first received the seed from one of our farmer and start to carve them and find out that the seed have an amazing texture. We now make from it hand carved Finger rings pendants and necklace.
