Thursday, December 9, 2010

A Belly Button Piercing Jewelry or as know as Navel Piercing Jewelry and Belly Bottom Ring. This piercing is known to be one of the most common and popular body piercings today. The belly piercing first hit the mainstream when model "Christy Turlington" showed her belly piercing at a fashion show in London in 1993. After that the belly piercing is become the fashion until today.

Even though the belly piercing become popular, but not every one can pierce his belly. The most important thing to consider when you want to pierce your belly is the skin over the navel and check if you have enough space to pierce or not. Normally, the navel piercing doesn't pierce through the true navel, but it pierce on the upper rim of navel. The piercing on the true navel can make only for the person who have an "outie" navel.

The belly piercing does not have only tone shape, it can come as a banana bar or as an "o" ring and also as a fashionable design on the banana bar. Besides that the new version of belly piercing is on the market, fake belly piercing jewelry which is based on the idea of clip-on earrings. This piercing jewelry suit for anyone who don't want to pierce his belly. The standard size of belly piercing jewelry is 0.064 inches or 14 gauge (gauge is the thickness of the wire the jewelry). The most frequent size jewelry for a healed navel is 3/8" or 7/16". The next size up is 1/2" if you prefer something larger, and 5/16" is shorter.

The Hill Tribes with Handmade Silver Jewelry

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

While the number of our items are increased, we also upgrade the materials for the best quality of goods. Even though the price of silver is more expensive, many new items that we try to use it instead of metal bead. Most of silver beads that we use are from the north of Thailand, the products from the Hill Tribe.

The Hill Tribes have been highly respected silversmiths for hundreds of years old. They handcraft detailed jewelry components and beads from fine silver. Fine silver is soft 99.9% pure silver as compared to harder sterling silver which is 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper. Silver ingots are flattened into a sheet by pounding with hammers and made into wire by pulling it through ancient draw dies. Thin silver sheets are hammered into black tar molds to make shapes, then soldered and engraved. Because the silver from Hill Tribes are handmade, so the silversmiths cannot make it fast like making by machine and the products are no 2 pieces exactly alike.

The jewelry create by the Hill tribes are objects of classic beauty and symbolic significance. Historically, the Hill tribe people have used silver instead of paper money because they don’t trust in the paper. Even today some of them prefer silver coins, jewelry, silver ingots, and silver pipes and boxes, because they feel that even the time passed by, the silver always retain their value (This thinking become true, seeing from the silver price that increased everyday like gold.). In addition to the value of money, wearing silver jewelry signifies wealth, status and spirituality. It also help to protect the suitors to young women and it adds color and excitement to many rather routine lives.

Because of today's world use the paper money for trade, some Hill Tribes are make silver and beads for trade with the outside world, but some Hill Tribes are still make the silver and beads for their consumption. Selling the products from their skill are helping them to have the income for support their family and their tribes. The Tribal elders fear that they are slowly losing their skills and cultures. Purchasing jewelry made with hill tribe crafted silver can help them to support their silversmith traditions and allow their tribal culture to continue to survive.

How To Judge The Quality Of Pearl

Sunday, November 28, 2010

The weather is cooling down, snow is falling in some place, the streets are decorated with light, and the time for give a present is coming. Many people choose pearl jewelry to be the gift, but how they know those pearls are good quality or not. Now we will tell you about how to judge the quality of pearls.

It should be difficult to judge the quality of pearl from naked eyes, but knowing the fundamental categories that determine a pearls’ value will behoove the consumer who wishes to purchase pearl jewelry. The quality of pearls are generally judged in the following categories:  thickness of the nacre, luster, size, shape, and color.

Nacre - The thickness of a pearl’s nacre is one of the elements that determine the size of pearl. Nacre thickness also determines a pearl’s resistant to discoloration. Cultured pearls with a thin-nacre despite its size will be more vulnerable to blemishes and cracking.

Size - Important, but not exclusively so. A perfectly formed smaller pearl might fetch a higher price than a slightly flawed larger one. If all else is equal, the larger pearl will be the more valuable. Unlike diamonds, pearls are not static gems; they are “alive” and can change with time, so caring for them is crucial.

Luster - The pearls’ luster is enigmatic, and its iridescence can mesmerize the onlooker through its sheer sublime simplicity. Luster is determined by the thickness of the nacre as well. A pearl bearing a smooth and blemish free surface possesses a high degree of luster. You can judge the luster of a pearl by attempting to see your reflection on the surface of the pearl. If the pearl projects a blurry reflection, the pearl is deemed as having a low quality. If you see a fairly clear reflection of yourself, you possess within your hand a high quality pearl with a thick-nacre.

Color - Pearls are classified in many colors; white, cream, pink, silver, black, and gold. The best quality of pearls are pearls which have only color without defects. The overtone of a pearl is determined by the combination of colors projected when a pearl is rotated and they usually have a rose, green, or blue hue.  What makes pearls so mesmerizing is their color projection. A good quality pearl will emanate its color from within.  The depth of a pearl’s color projection adds greatly to its value.

These all are the factors to judge the quality of saltwater pearls. On the other hands, the cultured pearls of freshwater pearls are graded in the 4 categories; AAA (Extra Fine), AA (Fine), A (Good), and BB (Commercial).

AAA grade - pearls are spherical in shape, even in color and luster, flawless, and they have a high level of luster and iridescence.

AA+ grade - pearls have a high luster and iridescence and is 95% flawless. Most AA+ pearls are frequently used in necklaces and bracelets.

AA grade -
pearls generally have a lesser degree of luster and iridescence; they also lack color uniformity with slight blemishes. Most AA grade pearls are drilled on the blemish to hide the flaw.

A grade - pearls have less luster and iridescence than AA pearls. The naked eye might be able to detect flaws and the shape will be slightly irregular.

BB grade - pearls will tend to look chalky white and they will have less luster and, iridescence.  They will also tend to have blemishes.

AAA and AA+, AA pearls are usually used in pearl necklaces because jewelers are able to match size, color, and luster of the pearls fairly easily

The cause is the white color is match with color of snow and trends of winter, and natural white color of pearl is also match with every colors and every style of cloths. Either earrings or ring, necklace, and bracelet, everything which decorated by pearl are pleased.

Besides pearl jewelries, the another jewelry that popular in Christmas is the jewelry that feature by Turquoise and Coral Stone (or other jewels that appeared in green or red color). Mother of Pearl, From the Past...to Today

Monday, November 8, 2010

Mother of pearl is an inner shell layer which produced by some mollusks to makes up pearls. It also insulates mollusks from bacterial infection, and reduces irritation from organic material which drifts into the shell. Irregularities often form in the mother of pearl as a result of irritation. If the irritation is extensive enough, the mollusk will form a large bump, that's called a pearl. The mother of pearl is strong but flexible and iridescent layer. It is also the primary material used in pearl nucleus manufacturing. Pearl oysters and abalone are both sources of mother of pearl. Besides jewelry, mother of pearl also widely used in furniture and music instruments.
In every jewelry shop, you can find the necklace's pendant that's made from mother of pearl, also big and small pendant. Since 7 years ago, the mother of pearl became popular for used to made big necklace's pendant. Either natural texture or cut styles were worldwide release. After that the mother of pearl was mixed with stone, silver, and another materials followed the fashion, while the big mother of pearl pendant was still popular.

General Information about PEARL that you should know

Monday, October 18, 2010

If talked about jewelry, I'm surly that peal is one of the first jewel that many people love it. Pearl is the most popular jewel and it is the only one jewel that occur from the creature.

Pearl can divided to 2 kinds are saltwater pearl and freshwater pearl. They are sometime look quite similar but come from different sources. The saltwater pearl grow within pearl oyster which live in ocean. They are usually cultivated in protected lagoon. While natural freshwater cultured pearl grow within many species of freshwater mussels which live in lake, pond, and river. These pearl also occur in hotter and colder climates more temperate areas. Many countries are export the freshwater pearl, nonetheless the most of freshwater cultured pearls which sold today come from China.

Many people think that the real pearl have to be round shape only and others shape are artificial pearl. In fact, there is one kind of pearl that is irregular shape called "Baroque Pearl". Cultured freshwater pearls are most commonly baroque, because freshwater pearls are mantle-tissue nucleated instead of bead nucleated. Thus the baroque pearl is rarely perfectly rounded and can appear in oval shape. The most of artificial pearl is make from plastic, glass, or resin that sometime look similar the real pearl. However there are many way to proved it such as "The Tooth Test" by rub the surface of the pearl over the teeth. If it is the real pearl, a gritty or bumpy feeling against the teeth. On the other hand, if it is the artificial pearl, would feel smooth against the teeth. By the way some article says the tooth test is not reliable. The other one easily way to check the pearl is "Sun Test", by taking the pearl out into the sun or holding it under very bright indoor lighting. The real pearl won't be perfectly matched under the sun or variations in their orient and color, conversely the artificial pearl is perfectly matched for color and overtone.

Commonly we can find just the white pearl, pink pearl, and black pearl in the shop or market, but actually there are many colors of pearl such as blue, champagne, green, purple, and other tints colors. The reason that these colors of pearls are rarely to find is they can be found only from the ocean. So it may take years to collect them enough for make just one necklace or jewelry.

As we told that besides the stone, shell, and natural seed, we also use wood and coconut shell for make handmade jewelry. And this blog we will tell about coconut shell with handmade jewelry.

Someone are doubt that the skin of coconut is green, but why the coconut shell is brown. The brown shell is the third shell of coconut. The coconut has 3 layers of shell, Outermost layer is the green skin, second is coir fibers, and third layer is coconut shell that used for make various crafts products, including jewelry. Before using coconut shell to make jewelry, have to brought all the coir fibers out from the shell, then polished for beautiful.

Coconut shell is not only used to be pendant for necklace or earring, it also cut and make the shape to be bead for decorated on the jewelry. The attractiveness of coconut shell is the natural light brown or light yellow stripe on the brown skin. The other one thing is the coconut shell is light weight but shining and looks costly.

Somebody may thinks that the coconut shell is useless, but for the manufacturer like us we can bring the useless thing to put the value on it by our hand. Also the coconut shell despite its cost is very cheap, we can put the idea to add valuable on it. Each of product are passed the creativity and sensibility of hand making, that's why the consumer prefer the handmade products.

Seashell with Fashion Jewelry

Friday, October 8, 2010

Almost haft of our handmade jewelry's design is use seashell to decorated, so it contain many kind of seashell for designing the different style of jewelry. The seashell that we use has more than 10 kinds such as Abalone, Paua, Nautilus, scallop, cowrie, and etc. Each of shell has their own identity, so it make the jewelry looks attractive.

Many years ago, the seashell jewelry was very popular. The most one popular design is the big shell pendant with necklace in which we proud to say that we was one of the first designer and manufacturer who design and made this. When the time goes by, the fashion is changed and also the big seashell pendant is not very popular like before. So we have to create the new design for new trends all the time. But it not means the seashell jewelry is not received the attention, it still popular in some place. For example in France, Shiva Eye shell is the most popular one for handmade jewelry. Also the beach area in many country if compare between seashell jewelry and others jewelry, the seashell jewelry is more popular than others.

In each area, the popular shells are different but the most popular are Shiva Eye shell and Paua shell. The prominent point of Shiva Eye shell is the natural spiral shape on the white shell and dark green mix with orange and gray on back of shell. And the prominent point of Paua shell is the interior layer of shell is like the rainbow color (also called iridescent) swirl of intense green, blue, purple, and sometimes pink colors.

Even though today's trends are not seashell jewelry, but the designer and manufacturer like us can apply the seashell jewelry follow the trends. So this is the reason that why seashell still appear with the fashion jewelry.

Type of stone that we use for handmade jewelry

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Besides the natural seed that we use for make handmade jewelry, we also use the gemstone, seashell, pearl, and wood.

The gemstones that we use are natural stone and synthetic stone (fake stone). The reasons that we use some synthetic stone are price, suitability with jewelry, and popularity. Like turquoise, most of turquoises on jewelry are synthetic because the real turquoise is expensive and the color of stone can become pale if it's kept in wrong way. So for using this stone on jewelry, the synthetic is more suitable, colorful, and popular than the real one. And some stone such as red coral stone is controlled to trade, so we have to use the synthetic stone.

The synthetic stone is made from the powder of stone and resin, but some are use sand or crushed shell with resin. Then added the color to the stone as the real stone such as red for coral stone or blue and green for turquoise.

It just some stone that we use the synthetic for the handmade jewelry. Even though the real gemstone is rather expensive, almost that we use for our handmade jewelry are real e.g. malachite, amethyst, onyx, lapis lazuli, and etc.

Seed that we make handmade jewelry (Part 2)

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Last time that we told about seed that we use to make handmade jewelry, it's not all. This time we'll continue about others seeds which also popular for use to make the handmade jewelry.

The Castor Seed or "Med La Hoong" in Thai name has the dominant characteristic  with the pattern like the snake skin on the seed. When castor is decorated with the jewelry, it make the jewelry looks attractiveness.

Castor Seed

The white color seed that we always use for our handmade jewelry is "Look Deuy" or Job's tear seed. Because of its white color, we often use with red color or black color seed for jewelry. The colors of Job's tear seed is not always white, some seed are gray and some seed are light brown or light yellow.

Job's Tear Seed

The others one white color seed that we use for handmade jewelry is "Tua Kaow", also know as white bean, pea bean, or haricot. Nomally, white bean is used for cooking with pies or soups but it also apply for making jewelry. The color of white bean is not very white, but it rather off-white or cream color. Because of the size of white bean is not small like job's tear seed, it is not used for jewelry often.

White Bean

One more big seed that we use is Rubber Seed or "Look Yang", is the seed of rubber tree that's grown in the south of Thailand. The size of rubber seed is rather big, approximatly diameter is 2 cm. The rubber seed has the skin like the castor seed but more brown.

Rubber Seed

Actually the seed that we use for handmade jewelry are numorous, but we just choose the most popular seed from our jewelry. If you interset in natural seed jewelry, let's check our website - www.naturalhandmadejewelry.com

What is Gemstone?

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Many people understanding about gemstone is only mean to diamond. Actually gemstones are also rocks, crystals, and others stones. Today I'll describe about what is gemstone?

A gemstone is a piece of attractive mineral, some rock and organic material which is cut and polished to making jewelry or accessory. Some gemstones are used for gems in crystal.
The 2 classifications of polishing are “Cabochons” and “Facets”. The cabochons are cut as smooth, dome or convex top with a flat bottom. Facets are flat faces on geometric shapes, reflect with light, round brilliant cut. Cabochon is usually applied to dim gems like turquoise, opal, etc., while facets is usually applied to transparent stones like ruby or amber.

The most attractive feature of gemstones is color. When the daylight (also called “white light”, is mixed actually many of different light) passes through the gemstone, some light can passes through, but some light is absorbed. As Amber appear yellow because it absorbed all the color of white light (red, blue, green, etc.) except yellow. The Amazing of gemstone’s color is even though the same gemstone, appear in many different color such as sapphires show different shades of blue and pink, while fancy sapphires exhibit a whole range of yellow to orange-pink colors. The difference of colors is base on the atomic structure of stone.

The treatment of gemstone is affected to the color and clarity of the stone.  The heating process has been well know to treats the gemstone for centuries. But the different gemstones are different way to treats. Waxing or oiling is suitable for emerald and turquoise. Because of emerald is contained the natural fissures, and wax or oil is colored to make the emerald appear the better color and clarity.

In the world there are variety kind of gemstones that we can use to make jewelry. Absolutely that you can find a lot of jewelries with beautiful gemstones on our website - http://www.naturalhandmadejewelry.com

Turquoise stone

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Can not deny that nowadays TURQUOISE is founded widely in jewelry and fashion. Since the beginning of the year 2010, many brands release their new items with the turquoise stone and turquoise color. Because of the color of turquoise is not over bright and mellow like the pastel tone and looks relaxing, so that is compatible with many colors such as white, gray, dark blue, or black. Moreover, in many country has the belief that turquoise means to "Protection" and some area use this stone for treatment, so no wonder that turquoise always use to make the jewelry and amulet.

Turquoise is used for making jewelry since first dynasty of Egypt or may be before. The French conducted archaeological excavation of Egypt and found many jewelry which use turquoise. In France, turquoise was first introduced from the Turkish, so they call "Turkish Stone". In the culture of Western, turquoise is the traditional birthstone for who born in December.

The most of turquoises which used in jewelry are synthetic (also called fake turquoise), because the price is not too high and easy to take care. The color of real turquoise may become pale when it get heat or when the time passed by but not for synthetic, the color of synthetic turquoise is always bright. The synthetic turquoise stone is first produced from Egyptian by glazed earthenware.

Many people may doubt that some turquoises have the dark veins like the spiderweb but some are not, those dark veins called "Spiderweb matrix". The matrix is occurred from the weather and oxidation processing over millions of years. In some country matrix is make the turquoise more beautiful and more value, on the others hand many country in Middle East thought that making imperfection with the stone and the value is less.

Many items of our product use turquoise stone to compose the jewelry, and certainly that is always popular.

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

As we are based in Bangkok Thailand, we got one question that is been asked all the time; "How do you treat your workers?", "Are you a fair trade company?", "Does the workers have health care insurance?" etc...

Our Company is working 24 days a month, from 8:00 morning to 18:00 in the evening with 1 hour break on noon time.

As we believe that education is very important, we don't hire any worker that is younger then 18 years old.

All our workers are can support themselves and their family as we take care that they will get a fair salary and Health care for them and their kids. For over time, we pay our workers 150% from their regular salary.

We also take care for safety and clean working environment, and we provide safety accessories that will help to prevent accidents.

All our natural seed beads are been bought from farmers in north east of Thailand that is known as a poor area. As before no one ask to buy those seeds they just throw them away or just leave them to rot. We pay the farmers a fair price and accept every quantity that they give as and that way they have extra money to support their family as well.

We are trying to do our best to give our workers the best conditions and make them grow up with us as we hope for a better future for them as well.

Seed that we make handmade jewelry from

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

On our Handmade jewelry collection we have a great selection of natural seed beads jewelry. So I want to explain a bit about were we receive it from what is there, Thai name and English name (if they have one).

First, all the seed that we have in our collection is growing In Thailand.

As we like to buy all our material from there real source, we go to the country side and found the farmers that have those seed beads in there farm and want to sell it for us instead of let those seed beads rat on the flour or just go to the garbage.
And that way we help them with a little extra income (one of the farmers sold for us 1000 KG. of red seeds in one year so it is not small :) ).

The seed that we work with the most is The Red Sandlewood Seed or Saga Seed (in Thai they call is "Med Ma-Glam Ta Chang" (Elephant's Eye) ). It is grown in tropical areas only so you can find it in south east Asia or in South America . In South America they call "Tento Seed" or "ChoCho seed".

Saga Seed

In northeast of Thailand people eat the seed as a Peanut and also make necklaces from the seeds for good luck.

Another seed that is Abrus precatorius or know as Jequirity or Crab's Eye, red mix with Black is been used for make many of our jewelry. The Name of this seed in Thailand is "Med Ma-Glum Ta Nhoo" or "Ta Dam Ta Dang" (black eye red eye). It is know for his bright red and black colors and grown in north east Thailand.
